When Charlotte played t-ball in the spring, she started asking to see the San Francisco Giants play. She has continued to ask for it all summer. We finally bought some tickets and made plans to see the Giants play the San Diego Padres on Saturday.
The children were dressed and ready to go. They were watching the Olympics while I was getting myself ready. Suddenly I heard a scream. It turned out that Charlotte got excited when the American gymnast did well, and bumped her knee into her chin. It knocked one tooth out, and greatly loosened the other one. As the tooth was not quite ready to come out, there was quite a bit of blood and crying. Eventually, the bleeding stopped, Charlotte calmed down, I finished getting ready, and we made it to the game. We missed the first pitch, but were in our seats before the Giants started batting.

Fortunately I had packed lunches and snacks consisting mostly of soft foods. We really didn't want Charlotte's other tooth to fall out during the game. We avoided buying hot dogs, nachos, peanuts, pizza, or any other typical ballpark food which might have caused another scene. I did spring for some Ghirardelli hot fudge sundaes. Suddenly Charlotte was smiling again.

We got a great deal on our tickets, but were very pleased with the seats. There was a lovely view of the San Francisco Bay. We could see the entire field. And there were enough empty seats around us that we were able to move over when the tall guys in front of us blocked our view.

Just above Alexander's head in the photo below, you can see a patch of green and brown. That is Barry Bonds Junior Giants Field where Charlotte played many of her t-ball games. You can also see a few birds in the sky. It was amazing to see the seagulls swoop in as the fans left. They must realize how many food scraps are left behind when the people clear out.

After the game ended, Charlotte finished her sundae, so we sat a bit longer. Then we took a few photos. Then we went to the concession stand where we agonized over the caps, visors, and scrunchies. Finally Alexander chose the orange baseball cap and Charlotte selected the hair scrunchy. We took the escalator all the way down, walked out the gate, and Charlotte said, "I have to go to the bathroom". Fortunately no one was watching the gate, so we walked right back in. The escalator was only moving down, so we had to walk back up the ramp. We sneaked into the first restroom we found, did our business, washed our hands, and headed back down the ramp. The gate was locked. Panic. Then a guard came by and said, "we thought it was all clear". Well, they missed us. Fortunately there was an exit through the restaurant/bar and we made it out quickly and safely. Not ready to let the adventure end, we took the bus home.

After a long day, I was happy to fall into bed relatively early. We were wakened by a scream at midnight, when Charlotte realized that her other tooth had fallen out.
Oh, and I forgot to mention: the Giants won 4-3! Go Giants!
