Charlotte the Seahorse

I was very excited to start swimming lessons this summer. I was a Starfish again, but I was much more willing than last year to try everything that my teachers asked me to do.

I started out with my goggles, but found that I preferred to do almost everything without them. I still held my nose when going underwater though!

We swam with the kickboards. We played Simon Says, Ring Around the Rosie, and What Time is it, Mr. Sharky? The teachers threw all sorts of pool toys into the water and we had a treasure hunt as we collected as many as we could.

We learned the basic arm and leg movements. We practiced putting our faces in the water and coming up to breathe. We learned to push off from the wall and practiced gliding. We also learned to float on our backs.

I even jumped into the deep end! Deep for me, anyway. At first I would only jump by squatting down and keeping my hands on the edge. By the last day my teacher was able to get me to jump in from a standing position at least once.

After the last class, I found out that I passed the Starfish class and can be a Seahorse next time. I'm a little nervous because I saw some of the things they have to do and how deep the water is where they do it. Fortunately we are busy for the rest of the summer. Maybe it won't scare me so much by next year!
