Introducing Operation Big Boy Bed

Our latest venture has become quite a production.

Alexander has been sleeping in his crib with one railing removed. Now that he is three and a half years old, we have realized that the crib is really getting too small for him. It's possibly more accurate to say that he is getting too big for the crib.

This could not be as simple as buying him a new bed. Charlotte's full-sized bed next to a twin bed would leave very little room for play and other non-sleeping activities. Our plan is to replace both beds with a bunk bed.

Here is our Operation Big Boy Bed status report:

Phase 1 - Bunk bed has been ordered, but no shipping confirmation has been received. Estimated delivery date is completely unknown. IN PROGRESS.

Phase 2 - Crib has been sold. COMPLETED.
This happened more quickly than expected. We literally sold the bed out from below the poor boy.

Phase 3 - Bed is being sold. Potential buyer will decide tonight and possibly pick up the bed on Sunday. IN PROGRESS.

Phase 4 - Mattresses and linens to be purchased at IKEA on Saturday. SCHEDULED.

Phase 5 - The War on Mold. Recurrence of mold discovered in Phase 3 must be eradicated. Mold-resistant paint additive has been ordered. Directions for cleaning, painting, and spraying the walls have been researched and prepared. IN PROGRESS.

Phase 6 - Bedroom reorganization. Items formerly stored under the crib and under the bed must find new homes. TO BE DETERMINED.

Phase 7 - Big kid bedroom revealed. STAY TUNED!

In the meantime, Charlotte offered to let Alexander sleep in her bed until the new bed arrives. It worked well last night. We'll see how it goes once the novelty wears off....
